I wasn't sure what to call my blog. What the world needs now is another bike blog, or a kendo blog, or a photography blog, or...
Yeah, sure. I do a lot of stuff pretty well, but I wouldn't go out of my way to say I'm exceptionally good at them. At least I enjoy them, and I suppose that's all the justification I need. So I anticipate my writings may jump between things like kendo, photography, cycling, design, technology, parenthood, and a whole slew of mundane things. Should I start separate blogs? Nah, I'm too lazy for that.
Back to what to call my blog and what brilliant URLs are still available?
...So I keep stumbling over this word amateur, and find it's almost dichotomous definition and etymology a cruel joke in how aptly it describes my condition. While some days I fancy myself as some nouveau renaissance man, in reality I'm more like a jack-of-all-trades-but-master-of-none.

Amateur.
From it's Latin/French root, meaning "lover of", I can definitely say that I would do all these things regardless if I was getting paid for them or not. I do them simply for the love of doing them. Yet there's always this nagging feeling that all my unfinished business and disjointed focus has me falling short of my potential, and undeniably short of being a true "professional".
So here is my inaugural post about a guy with too many hobbies, fumbling along wearing the badge of the amateur with pride.
Doing it for the love.
